Looks like "Athena" has been slowly creeping up in popularity over the last 50 years: http://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/babyname.cgi. It's been ranked in the top 1000 baby names all that time. "Athene" has not hit the top 1000 at all during that time. I know one Athena personally, she's got Greek parents. I know an Electra, too. Her mother is a comic book fan.
