I might have been clearer had I added that, if you're already in the roundabout, it's always your turn. You do not kindly offer to let somebody waiting to go in, which is another thing that Americans do, even if it's their turn (because they have the right of way) and not the other car's turn (because they have a yield sign), which is again, a situation of having turns that does involve alternating turns.
