Nesbit's Story of the Amulet. It includes a scene in which the children go to see Julius Caesar to try to persuade not not to invade Britain, but by telling him about modern British inventions, they unwittingly persuading him to invade after all, when he'd actually just decided against it. (Caesar later dismisses the conversation as a dream, hence its absence from his Gallic Wars.)
