Well, in a sense, a novel is composed. In fact, it's more purely an art form of composition than music is: Most people still read the words printed on the page (despite an increasing market for audiobooks), whereas people like Lord Vetinari who prefer to read the score without the messy involvement of actual musicians are quite rare.

(No, that's not an entirely serious argument.)

He was still "Tschaikowsky" when I heard his music in grade school in the 1950s. Pronounced "Chye-cow-skee," too.
