This reminds me of something Joanna Russ wrote in an essay about magic that changes the magician. That would be more Le Guin's view, I suppose, and maybe that was even her example. Russ was opposing this view to a more instrumentalist version of magic where the magician is unaffected by the magic he wielded.
Regarding analogical, I think I was confused by the fact that "an-" is the same as "a-" in some words. Which would make it "without alogic" -- perhaps a double negative? No, just more confused thinking on my part.
