word of web

Rec'd an e-mail query from a prof who'd like to read the paper I gave at the Tolkien 2005 conference, "Hobbit Names Aren't From Kentucky." Yeah, I'd like people to be able to read it, too, but I have no idea of the status of the plans to publish the conference proceedings.

I could send it to this guy myself, and I see that word about it has gotten out here and there, as well as a brief reference in a Crooked Timber comment thread on the hoary question of whether Tolkien was racist. Undoubtably my correspondent saw one of those.

But what I'm mostly regretting is that I didn't have the wit to call the paper "Hobbit Names Ain't From Kentucky" instead.

Yes--why can't yo7u change it for publication? You cuold note the alteration if you wished, in a footnote.

My regret is for the conference. I could change it for publication, as I want to update the bibliographic references too, all of which would be easier if, as noted, I knew the status of publication plans.
