What do you mean, "the handsome prince they met that day"? He'd been in the story all along, and the heroine had had a crush on him all that time. Everything in the story is pointing towards them, and the shift to the previously-ignored icecutter is at least startling; further, the real emphasis in the story is on the sisterly pair.
