In our system, conflicts of interest aren't brought up until the oral questioning of individual candidates (voir dire). They're always asked if they have relatives in law enforcement (which would include prison officers), but that's not automatically disqualifying, though in practice such candidates usually are dismissed. I've always been let go when they learn that my career as a librarian included long stints in law school libraries.
